JOURNEY TO JUSTICE PRIVACY POLICY

This policy, in conjunction with our Terms and Conditions, explains how Journey to Justice may use the information we collect about you and how we protect the data you have given to www.journeytojustice.org.uk as well as the rights you have over any personal information we hold about you.

Journey to Justice is committed to ensuring your privacy is protected. If we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy policy.

We may change the policy from time to time but will alert our members and supporters when this happens. We also encourage you to check this page occasionally to ensure that you are happy with any changes.

Who are we?

Journey to Justice is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered No: 1170886. The principle office of the CIO is in England.

Our charitable purposes are:

To promote human rights (as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent United Nations conventions and declarations) all over the world by all or any of the following means:

  • researching into human rights issues and supporting cross community groups to tell untold stories of local history relating to human rights issues;
  • educating the public about human rights through organising education and arts programmes;
  • raising awareness of human rights issues through running training courses for adults and young people;
  • promoting public support of human rights issues through national programmes in partnership with local community groups; and
  • promoting respect for human rights among individuals and corporations by telling powerful stories of the role of individuals in effecting social change.

To promote equality and diversity for the public benefit by: advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity and promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds.

To promote racial and religious harmony for the public benefit by:promoting knowledge and mutual understanding between different racial and religious groups and advancing education and raising awareness about different racial and religious groups to promote good relations between persons of different racial and religious groups.

We produce educational resources, which are provided free of charge to educators across the UK, for use in the classrooms or community settings or at exhibitions. We also organise training activities for which a fee may be charged. We create and develop exhibitions for which a fee may be charged.

How do we collect information from you?
We obtain information about you when you become a member or supporter of Journey to Justice, use our website and when you subscribe to our electronic newsletter or attend any of our events.

Web Statistics & Analysis
We may also aggregate information about you with information about other visitors to the website in order to identify trends (‘Aggregated Data’). However, such information will not identify you personally.

What type of information is collected from you?
When you sign up to Journey to Justice, the personal information we collect may include:
• Name
• Email address
• Organisation link (if relevant)
• Postal address for members
• Phone numbers for volunteers
• Postcode (first part) to inform you about local events

How is your information used?
We need this information so we can keep you informed, as members and supporters, about the work of Journey to Justice. Also we wish to invite you to JtoJ events as well as inviting members to take part in elections and to our Annual General Meeting. We may periodically send newsletter emails about new resources, events or other information which we think you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided. We may also write to you about funding appeals. You might be contacted by email, phone or mail.

Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure, accurate and up to date, and that we only keep it as long as is reasonable and necessary. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place appropriate technical and organisational security measures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

We do not store your personal information other than on our Data Processors’ secure systems.

However the transmission of information over the Internet is never completely secure, so while we do our best to protect personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to the Journey to Justice website.

Who has access to your information?
Details are kept on a database which can only be accessed by the JtoJ director and Secretary and by our web manager when we send our e-newsletters.

Local JtoJ groups have designated a main contact and one other person to have access to local JtoJ supporters’ details only.

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we are required by law to do so. No-one outside Journey to Justice will have access to your information except our web manager who has access to email addresses when we send the occasional e-newsletter.

Who processes your personal information?
In order to ensure the most secure systems for the handling personal information and communications we use international companies to store and process our data, all of whom are compliant with the requirements of UK data privacy law. These include:

  • MailChimp as our data processor in respect to the processing, storage and analysis of our subscriber information.
  • GoDaddy as our data processor for website hosting and Database storage.
  • Google Analytics as our data processor for tracking general site traffic and usage.

Controlling your personal information
You can change your mind about the consent you have given us.

How you can access and update your information
The accuracy of your information is important to us. If you change your email address or if any of the other information we hold becomes inaccurate or out of date, please email the Journey to Justice Data Controller at: info@journeytojustice.org.uk

How you can delete your personal information
The personal information we hold can be deleted by emailing the Journey to Justice Data Controller at: info@journeytojustice.org.uk

Use of ‘cookies’
A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Transferring your information outside of the European Union
As part of the services offered to you through this website, the information which you provide us may be transferred to countries outside the European Union. By way of example, this may happen if any of our servers or Data Processors are from time to time located in a country outside of the EU. These countries may not have similar data protection laws to the UK. By submitting your personal data, you are agreeing to this transfer, storing or processing. If we transfer your data outside of the EU in this way, we will take steps to ensure that appropriate security measures are taken with the aim of ensuring that your privacy rights continue to be protected as outlined in this Policy.
