Black Country Roots and Realities Project

Journey to Justice is delighted to collaborate with Genesis Sun again on this new National Lottery Heritage Funded project which explores African, Caribbean and mixed heritage and identity in the Black Country.

We will be working with young people to uncover lived experiences, memories, traditions, family stories and community voices.  Young beneficiaries will learn oral history and archival research skills and discover how heritage is preserved and shared. Heritage sessions will be led by historians skilled in oral history, migration history and who have considerable experience of working with young people.

Diane Spence, founder and CEO of Genesis Sun says, ‘Through partnership with Journey to Justice, we have seen how powerful storytelling can bring history to life. Together, our vision is to ensure no young person in the Black Country grows up ignorant or embarrassed about their heritage. By collecting, preserving and sharing stories, we will create a lasting legacy of pride, identity and inclusion.’
